Native American Blood

I shall tell you how my line branches into the Native American or Metis line. I never thought I had Metis blood until I recently traced my paternal line a bit further and lo and behold, I traced one line to the Penobscot people. Well that really made me curious so I have been reading a lot about the Abenaquis because I thought they were my ancestors.
The Abenaquis were a tribe that belonged to Wabanaki Comferation along with the Passamaquaddy,Maliseet,Penobscot, and later the Migmaw were in the Confederation.Wabenaki means people of the dawn. The original Wabanaki Confederation was lead by many famous Chiefs over the years up to the early 1700.The best known Chiefs were Edgermeret cousin of Madockawondo,Moxus his brother in law,Bomaseen his father in law and Madockawondo (my ancestor). The Abnaki formed an early attachment for the French, chiefly through the influence of their missionaries, and carried on an almost constant war with the English until the fall of the French power in America . These people lived mostly in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The western Abenaqui livec in New Hampshire and Vermont areas. The eastern Abenaqui lived in Maine and the maritime Abenaqi lived near St John River and St Croix . The Abenaqui people had tempory campgrounds that they would meet at such places as Penobsot Falls,Mattawankeag.Later on many of the Abenaqui people moved into Canada and some settle in Becancourt Quebec,Sillery and St Francis near Pierville Quebec.
My ancestors were the Penobscot tribe. These people lived in villages sometimes surrounded by fences or stakes (palisades). They lived in wigwams .The wigwams were made by the men, and they would shape the trees or sapling so that the frame would be curved, which would protect their home from the harsh weather and winds.Once they framed the wigwam they would cover it with Bark or mats maybe even hides of some animals.

The Penobscot people hunted, fished and farmed. They grew corn, hunted deer, cariboo, rabbits, among other animals. Before these people made contact with the white man there may have been as many as 40000 Abenaquis.. In the 1500s the Abenaqui people were struck with two epidemics, and in 1586 they were hit with the Typhus fever, and around 1620 three separate epidemics swept New England, Maine and Canada. The Maine people lost around 75 percent of their people.I could go on and on, but I would suggest you go to a search engine such as google and search, there are so many interesting stories and history of the Abenaqui people. Now how exactly do the Abenaqui especially the Penobscot people come to be part of my ancestors? Read on and you will see.
The Penobscot people had a chief they called Madockawando.
He was born in Maine around 1630, he was the adopted son of Assaminaqua who he succeeded as Sachem of the Penobscot Indians. In 1694 a deed of Conveyance of lands with Sir William Phipps was made at Pamaquid of which Madockawando released lands on both sides of the St George River, in the province of Massachussetts. He was an important part of history of Eastern Maine because of his position as Sagamore of Penobscot.
The following was the bottom of the page of the 1693 treaty between the British Crown and the Massachussetts Bay and rivers areas;

understand and consented thereunto, and was then signed, sealed, and delivered in the presence of us.
EDGEREMETT
MADOCKAWANDO
WASSAMBOMET of Mavidgwock
WENOBSON of Tenconnet,
in behalf of Penobscot
BOMASEEN
NITAMEMET
*John Bagatawawongo, alias Sheepscoat John
*Phill, Ounsakis, Squaw
*Interpreters
There were other names also.not verified).
Until his death in 1698, Madokawando was the sole great chief of the Penobscots; he had his lieutenants who were in command of the warriors, led expeditions, and parleyed with the enemy when truces were made. But it was known everywhere that nothing was done without his son-in-law's advice, and that the latter had only to express a wish for it to be instantly complied with.<source; webcousins
Now Madockawondo lead and attack against Salem, Oyster River and Groton. The largest force of Indians to assemble for war against the English in Acadie were 300 Penobscot,Kennebec, and Maliceet warriors who were led in an attack agaisnt Salem,Oyster River and Groten led by Madockawando.I came across an article dated Feb 22 1691 saying that One of three Chief Sagamore was Madockawondo who sold 36 slaves captured in York in a previous onslaught, and all of his slaves were sold at the same price. Now that I have told you a bit about Madockwando, and if you are interested, there are many stories online, Villebon's Journal, Oyster Bay among other sources.
Again if you want to read lots more stories on Madockawondo ,search the internet there is lots out there.
THE FOLLOWING IS FROM VILLEBON'S JOURNAL FOUND AT OUR ROOTS.CA" MAY 10 1695-MADOKAWANDO ARRIVED AT THE FORT DECLARING THAT HE WISHED TO SETTLEE ON THE RIVER TO PUT AN END TO MY SUSPICION OF HIM BECAUSE OF HIS PARLEYS WITH THE ENGLISH. HE REPLACED THE CHIEF WHO HAD DIED OF THE PLAGUE. I NOTIFIED ALL THE INDIANS TO BE IN READINESS TO ACT AS SOON AS WE HAD NEWS FROM FRANCE.

Now you have reached the part that tells you how Madockawando becomes my ancestor. Well Madockawanda had four lovely daughters, and there was this man who came from France with the Carignan-Salieres regiment by the name of Jean Vincent D'Abbadie de St Castin
This man started a fur trade in or near Penobscot, and he met Madockawando.Madockawando gave his daughters to St Castin which I will discuss next had children with these different women. But he only married one in the Catholic faith, her name was Pidianske ,but she was given the christian name of Marie Mathilde. She is the Indian Princess that I and many others descend from. Madockawando died around 1696 and his son in law St Castin became the new leader of the Penobscot Indians.

Jean Vincent D’Abbadie was born around 1652,the son of Jean-Jacques and Isabeau de Bearn de Bonasse in Saint Castin.Around 1652 he became the Baron of Saint Castin. His father Jean-Jacques D’Abbadie was the Seigneur of St.Castin,of Herrere,d’Escout and d’Escou ,and the first Baron of Saint Castin. His mother Isabeau de Bearn de Bonasse was the daughter of Jacques Bearn de Bonasse and Madeleine de Laas, her family was more important than the Abbadie de St Castin. Her father was the Seigneur of Bonasse . Jean Vincent D’Abbadie was related to the Kings of France. Isabeau died of the plague leaving her son Jean Vincent orphaned at a very early age. Jean Vincent had a sister Marie born 1650 she married Jean de LaBaig, and a brother Jean-Jacques bor in 1651 the second Baron of Saint –Castin he died in 1674 without having any children.
The D’Abbadie of the house of Maslacq came from long lines of Lawyers and Juriste .Jean Vincent’s grandfather Bertrand D’Abbadie was the king of Navarre’s lawyer. The Bearns dit Bonasse line on the other hand were soldiers and knights and were known for their courage. So as you can see these two families were important and noble people.
In 1665 Jean Vincent left France with the Carignan-Salieres regiment to come to Canada to fight the Iroquois. After the peace treaty with the Iroquois was signed Jean Vincent returned to France.
In 1670 he returned to Canada but this time he came to Acadie with the governor Grandfontaine. The following is an exert from Villebon's Journals which you can read at ourroots.ca.(Grandfontaine entered into possiession of Pentagoet in 1670.Saint Castin erected a house and other buildings and began to trade with the Indians whose friendship he soon gained. He roamed the woods and hunted with them, learned their language had many affairs with their women, aquired great influence and was made a chief. His fur trade mostly with New Englanders was very remunecrative. He made trips to Port Royal annually to attend Mass and make confession,at the same time he gave handsome presents to the church. When Meneval became governor in 1687 he was instructed by the King to tell St.Castin to live more like a gentleman,to give up his vagabond existence and to settle down and become respectable and to renounce his promiscous habits with women. In 1688 he married Matilda daughter of Madokawando the important chief of the Penobscot, which greatly increased his influence among the Indians. He also induced French Missionaries to settle near him.His life was full of adventures owing to the frequent warfare between the French and the English.") He settled in Fort Pentagouet, along the Bagaduce River . which became the heart of the first French Abenaqui or Metis Village. Jean Vincent D’Abbadie was known to be quite a ladies man ,and he had children with his Indian women ,the daughters of Madockawonda. He had the following children with Marie Mathilde who is my ancestor.
Claire born around 1671 she married Paul Meunier around 1700,she died in Grand Pre in 1744
Another daughter (unknown) around 1695 married a ? Meuneux dit Chateauneuf.
Another unknown daughter married Philippe Meunier around 1695.
Anastasie married Alexandre LeBorgne de Belisle December 4 1707 (Port Royal Registers). They are my ancestors.
Bernard born around 1688 died 1704 on his way to France
Bernard-Anselme born around 1689 married Charlotte D’Amour de Chauffours 1707 in Port Royal
Jean-Pierre born around 1692 entered the Seminary as did his brother Bernard he died 1702
Urseline born around 1696 married Louis D’Amour de Chauffours around 1715.
Joseph married after 1728 wife unknown, he died after 2 March 1751
Barenos married around 1725 wife unknown died 1746 of a knife wound received from his nephew who was an Indian.
Jean Vincent D’Abbadie had a daughter with another one of his Indian wives, their daughter was Therese who married in Port Royal Dec 4 1707 to Philippe Mius d’Entremont.
So Jean Vincent was given land on the Saint John River but he preferred staying in Pantagouet and when his father in law died Jean Vincent became the new chief of the Penobscot Indians. Jean Vincent was having some difficulties in France with his siblings so he returned to France to try and settle things but he died there in Pau in 1707 leaving his widow with a big family.

What was today like?

Well today is another day, and I have been pretty busy. I am on Facebook and I ask a question to my followers every day, and let me tell you sometimes I have to think to post the question. I enjoy doing it because many of my followers like them and they join in with their answers. Some of which brings a smile to our faces. And in today's world that is important. I have been told they some of my followers or friends really look forward to my question of the day. So as long as I make someone happy in some little way, I shall keep doing so.
After I posted my question, I had to go run some errands, and let me tell you Walmart was some busy today, it is the check outs that gets to me. Wait and wait and wait. But seeing holidays are soon approaching it is normal. Next I stopped off at my favorite coffee shop, Tim Horton's . In the USA they have Dunkin Donuts and their coffee is also good. We have another coffee shop called Robins it is good but I still prefer my TH. Then I came home and checked my emails , replied . I have many blogging sites but I didn't have time to blog to the others today. And we have another product in my store, they are sandstone coasters, and I have tried my hand at them. I wondered why they were not vivid colors but that is the way they turn out. So I created a couple suitable for weddings, and babies, and two funny ones for now. Right now I cannot make anymore because my store is down as far as creating for the moment and I know others are having the same problem but when you go check out my store you will see I added a new category called Coasters so you can check there off and on. Am adding an image of a coasters I made. I hope to be making a lot more. And be sure to check out my mugs and tee shirts, or hats and children folder in case you see something you would like to give for Christmas. go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor
I know this is a short blog but I hope to write something more interesting to you very soon.

The year of the Great Blackout

On Oct 15 1784 at around 3.15 pm it became exceptionally overcast, so much so that the air over the countryside became a brilliant yellow, then"R there were some
gusts of wind and rain which continued for a good portion of the night, with lots of thunder followed by lightning something especially surprising since there had been
a deep freeze on the night before. The next day ,Sunday the morning air was very calm with a thick fog which lasted until 10 am at which time a wind from the East began
to break it up.About a half hour later ,it became so dark that we could not read without a candle, this was followed by a violent wind and then thunder and lightning after which
everything seemed to clear up a bit,but from noon to 3pm it became so dark again that the priests were forced to interupt their masses until the church candles were lit; it was as
dark then as it would ordinairly have been at midnight whenever there is no moon. It should be noted that each period of darkness were both followed and preceeded by rain, lightning
and thunder. We noted that there were two currents of air running in opposite directions in the atmosphere, the upper current was pushing a stretch of luminous clouds towards the
northeast and the other moved some thick dark clouds towards the southwest at a fast pace and the rains that fell seemed as black as ink.
We attributed this freakish event to the smoke from a fire in some sulphur mines in some of our neighbouring areas which had thickened the air and chased its thickened clouds towards
our part of the country. the darkness was seen as far away as Niagara, if not further. source" Recollections of Nicholas Gaspard Boisseau, Notary"
I hope you liked this little story so as you can see back in 1784 they too had bad weather.

Nothing in Paticular

Another day is nearly over, and another month is nearly over. Today is already the 21 of November ,one month from today will sure be close to Christmas. Yesterday we had our first snowfall, and it is still on the ground. I just came back from cleaning my car and the wind is cold and the ground is slippery. I am sure there will be many more days like this. For you readers who live in a nice warm country, I would say you are lucky but at times you are not so lucky with your weather. They say there is a perfect place somewhere, but"Where?".
I have been working on my products and getting my genealogy software up and running again since I reformatted my PC I lost everything on it, but I had saved some elsewhere. Whew!.
This image on the shirt I adore, the cat in front of the computer, and if you look and read it says we love computers. I also created a card with the same image and wrote Merry Christmas to my Online Friend. It is so hard to create something that others don't have. So you should see me, I go around the house and look, and whatever comes to my mind I do it. I went under my sink and lo and behold I saw some pipes, what could I make with that? Hmm, Pipes =Plumbers so I began doing my plumbing bit. A shirt for plumbers, a shirt for advertising, a hat for advertising and finally a plumbing business card. Now these articles are great to advertise your plumbing business, you just need to change the words to your business. The hats and shirts can be given to your staff or clients as promotions even, the business cards are great to advertise also. I created some for my own store and ordered them. I was impressed at how nice they look. Am adding a photo of my business cards so you will see.
Now tomorrow my mind might wander to something else to create. If so ,you never know what will come to my mind. I honestly love creating funny stuff, clean funny stuff because everyone needs a laugh now and then.I also created a ladie's tee shirt today and it has the image of a double switch plate on the front of the shirt and I wrote " My husband is an electrician " on the front . It is sort of funny.
It is still early enough to order for Christmas, I know you can buy Christmas Cards at a dollar store, but they are not unique, check out my cards and there are many others who have stores like mine with beautiful cards too. Speaking of Christmas I took out my tree and I have it standing in my living room, but I will only decorate the first of December, I find if we decorate too early , we lose some of the Christmas Magic. Speaking of Christmas, I have added some music on my website http://allicorshop.acadian-roots.com ,if you have a zazzle store be sure to add your url in my forum, click post a message and post on the right discussion. If you want to see my main store go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
I am always looking for some nice intersting topics for my blogs if you have some ideas ,let me know.
Until next time

IPhones and Humor

Sitting at my computer ,wondering what to blog about. I am looking out of my window, it is overcast,

Drizzly, Yucky. But I should not complain, we could have snow, and with snow there is cold then with

Cold comes ice and that means slippery roads and sidewalks. No I should not complain because it will come soon enough. Many places are already getting snow and cold weather.

Yesterday I was in a creative mood, and seeing our new product iPhone and iPads cases were out, I really got into it and created over a dozen cases. But to be honest I didn’t have a clue what was in and what was not. I found out the iPhone 4 is the newest and the iPad too. So I must create more iPads and iPhone 4 cases.
And I also wanted to created something funny, I personally like humor ,it brings smiles and laughter so I created some senior tee shirts ,hats, badges and bumper stickers. I do hope you will check them out. The badges are in the button folder the bumper stickers are in the humor folder and hats in hat folder, tee shirts in tee shirt folder and the ipads and iPhone cases are in the iphone folder. Now my creativity is done for the night. When it comes to a point that my mind is blank it is time to stop for the day.

We are one people

Hello everyone, well you must have noticed I have not been around the last while, the reason is that I have been moving and let me tell you it was a big job but I am in my new place finally and things
are getting in order. So from Thursday until yesterday I had no phone, no TV, and no internet. It sure was tough. grin.I was anxious to get back, because on the 15th we were given a new product to create, so I wanted to see what I could do. The product is cases or covers for iPhone 3/3GS , iPhone 4 and ipads. I have been working on them most of today. These cases would be a nice Christmas gift for someone with iPhones. You can see more like the one above at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor
Now back to my story, I was home with nothing to do after my day's work so I love writing poems I don't think I am very good at it but I still love it, so the following is the poem I wrote to pass the time away. The title is: We are one People.

Our skins may be black
Red ,yellow or white
We have to keep peace
To make everthing right.

We are one people
Oh this is so true
No matter the color
It's me and it's you

Our language may be different
Our styles and our ways
But we are one people
Why not keep it that way

Love thy neighbor
Is what we've been told
So we are one people
Let's make this our goal

My Thoughts today

Today I am here sitting and thinking about all the men and women who served in our wars, some fought and died others were crippled for life. I don't want to push my products today, today I want to share my thoughts with you. If we think about it, so many lives were affected by our wars, the men, some so very young had to go, some had no choice in the matter, they were recruited and had to do their duty. Many said their goodbyes to their love ones never to be seen again. Think about the mothers and wives even husbands waiting while their love ones fought . What went through these people's mind? Can you imagine the ones at home, worrying, praying ,crying and received the bad news about their love ones? It sure must have been heart wrenching for them. Even more so, the service men and women overseas thinking about back home, their love ones, their children, and the children born that they never got to see. Oh yes, they fought for their country, and gave up their lives for our freedom. I am into genealogy meaning I do family trees and I search in the records all the time. And I see a death of John Doe age 24, Jim Brown age 19 . Nineteen can you imagine a nineteen year old young man going to war? And our service men and women made friends along the way only to lose those friends. And our men and women come back home and suffer from stress, I would believe that after all they have seen and gone through I cannot imagine them dealing with it. There are so many service men who died who's bodies have never been recovered . I know now that with DNA it is possible to identify the soldiers if they are found with the help of blood relatives. My heart goes out to all the soldiers who suffered because of our wars, no matter what reason, and I am also so very proud of all the men and women who served and who are serving our country today. I say to all the men and women in Afghanistan and other far away places , we are so proud of all of you ,stay safe, and come home soon.
God Bless all the service men and women who are here and who are gone.

Heros come in all sizes

The true test of courage is to brave the elements, to fight the odds, and to hold on no matter what. This was surely the problems that faced young Ti-Boy Cormier in that memorable day in 1807. It was a mild winter, all things considered. Yet the ponds and river had frozen over. Many villagers where Ti-Boy came from paid little attention to the early thaw or that the ice-covered rivers and ponds were probably

Not safe. When a man fell into the ice that that day ,Ti-Boy was nearby . The man’s friends did not dare to go near the hole. They knew more weight would cause a cave in. While they rushed nearby to get help, Ti-Boy inched his way being very careful towards the drowning freezing man. He grabbed the hand that clawed desperately at the thin edge around the hole, Ti-Boy with no regard for his own safety held on to the man’s hand until help arrived. For this rescue I am sure Ti-Boy would have earned a medal of bravery. What makes this story more unusual is that you see

Ti-Boy was only 6 years old.

I hope you enjoyed this little story and will return for more of my blogs. In the meantime if you have a minute why don’t you stop by my store ,see what I have added lately. I have new Christmas items, genealogy items, tee shirts, even a new calendar and much more at

What is Christmas really about?

Christmas is a major holiday celebrated all around the world. Some celebrate Christmas ,some do not.I am one of the ones who does. Christmas to me has always been special. When I was growing up, there was nothing that I enjoyed better than going to the midnight mass and seeing the beautiful service and the little manger in front of the church. To me this was beautiful, and when I got married this tradition keep going on, we would go to midnight mass, my turkey would be in the oven, and after the mass we would see our friends outside and wish one another a Merry Christmas. I always loved decorating my home, and I have a manger I set up every Christmas. I know Christmas is for family and friends, and a tree and presents, but also it is giving from the heart, many people gives something to strangers, to the needy ,to the hungry, and I am sure God is pleased with all of this. One Christmas my genealogy group and I donated some toys to two local hospitals and it did feel so good knowing that because of us some little child was happy or smiling. These photos I just posted are from my store, they can be found in my christmas folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
But getting back to my title What Christmas is all about? Well it is about remembering that Christ our Lord was born on Christmas Day. And also being with friends and family if possible. If you are away and cannot be home for Christmas, pick up the phone, or talk on the internet to family and friends.

What is Love all about?

We hear that word so very often LOVE. The dictionary defines it as "affection". We can love many things such as foods, nature, hobbies, sports. But the ohhhhhhhh love is the love we have for one another, the love we have for our families. We need love to survive, we crave it, without love we are lonely. No matter how old we are or we get, love is very important. I should have mentioned earlier we also need the love of God to help us in our lives. We need to believe in Love. We fall in love and we get married have children and we love them with all our hearts. We love our pets, they are a part of our family. I would like share a little story about love that I read in a book. It is not a true story but interesting to read. But first of all I would like to mention about lovers planning on gettng married , before they get married there are preparations , invitations to send, and wedding to plan and then after the wedding ,thank you cards to send. I am going to add some of my product images and you can find them by going into my greeting card folder and clicking on wedding at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor
Now for the story: Some say the course of true love never runs smooth, (I heard that saying many times) Such was surely the case of two star crossed lovers late in the 18th century. The young lady was named Madelyn Gallant. She lived with her parents in a tiny village called Blue Cove. Those who knew her believed she was the most beautiful young lady in the entire village. She was so popular that she was courted continuously by the young Naval Officers who were stationed nearby. yet Madelyn loved only one man. A handsome merchant named Tom Charlebois from another village many miles away. Mister Charlebois loved Madelyn
with an equal ardor and eventually a wedding date was set. It promised to be the most lavish event ever held in the village. Sadly a few weeks before the wedding,Madelyn contracted typhoid fever and died. This tragedy took place when her husband to be Tom was on his way to Blue Cove happy and not aware his future bride to be had died. Imagine his horror when he heard the shocking news! Wordlessly he went back home and took to his bed. There three days later he died. No cause of death was ever found ,although many said he died of a broken heart. I hope you enjoyed this little tale and I do hope you will go check out my gallery at the url I posted. Until next time.

I

So much to do and so little time in a day

Hello everyone, well it is so very true, the day should have more hours in it. grin. I have been quite busy lately ,am still packing and moving on the 15th. I am a pack rat, meaning I save everything and so this gives me much more work. I have a filing cabinet with four drawers packed full, I have two bookcases full of books, now if you have moved and packed books you know they are heavy. This time I smartened up and packed them in smaller boxes less books to a box. Right now I have a trailer the size of a horse trailer nearly full of boxes, the trailer I would say is about 3/4 full. I am finished with packing for today. About Babies

Hello all my followers and newcomers. The weather is cold today it really feels like winter, with the cold will come snow. But I do hope the snow will only arrive after I move. grin. Can you imagine me carrying boxes in a blizzard? I don't think so. haha.

Today I would like to talk about babies. They are so very precious and special. But before baby arrives, usually someone makes a baby shower.
And there is a lot of preparations for baby showers, there are invitations to send out. You can find a lot of baby shower invitations at my store at http://www.zazzle.com/alllicor* click on the greeting cards folder.
Then you need to have a lunch and even prizes, you can find magnets, badges, keychains, stickers,at my store too. The badges are in the button folder, and the magnets and stickers and keychains are in my miscellaneous folder. Finally the shower is over, a thank you card would be nice, you can find some of these in my greeting card folder among the invitations.
Next the baby arrives, a nice card to send to let your friends know is the card with the baby's name ,date of birth and weight. That card is also in my invitation cards and if you check out my postage stamps you will find a matching one.
So now you are all set for the new baby, next comes the caring and loving it and watching it grow.
All for now gotta go pack. grin
Chow for now
