Remembering all Fathers

Tomorrow is Father's Day,and I am certain many of you will be celebrating the day with your Dad or Father. But there are many of us out there who are not lucky enough to have our Dads with us. There are many reasons why we don't. Some have passed away (I am hoping they are watching over us) others are servicemen gone to serve their country. Some may have never known their father for various reasons. But nevertheless they are or were our Dad . I am sure like myself  that there are many of you wishing he could be here with you.

So on Father's Day, let us remember our Dad. My Father passed away but I still see him ,sitting in his chair twiddling his thumbs, he would twiddle frontwards,then twiddle backwards. grin. My father had a great personality and everyone liked him. I am sure many of you have great memories of your Dad, and to the ones who never knew their father I say, there is one thing you should all be thankful ,and that is he gave you life, he is the reason you are here today. Without our Father's we would  not be here. So a prayers goes out to all the Dad's who passed away, and a Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there today. To the ones who are away from their families no matter where you are, know that they are thinking about you and Have a Very Happy Father's Day.

The Spanish Flu

Well today I have been trying to find something to blog about that might be of interest to some of my readers, I want to write an interesting blog and also blog about my products ,but first to today’s story. Have you ever read about the Spanish Flu? Well I have a book called Looking Back which is a very interesting book and I am going to blog about an article in the book called Spanish Flu so I do hope you will enjoy reading it.

1918 was a jubilant year for Canada since it marked the end of the Great War and the soldiers oversees could return to their homes.However 1918 also marked the year of the first great worldwide pandemic that produced influenza so powerful that is has often been called The Great Plague of the 20^th century.More people were killed from the disease than all of the victims of the Great War with at least 20 million deaths and ten times that number who fell seriously ill from this sudden illness. In all over half the world’s population came under attack and in India alone at least 12 million people perished, mostly within a six week period in the fall of 1918 when the disease was at its worse. By 1919 North American had reported over 1 million flu deaths while even remote nations like New Zealand and the south sea islands were heavily affected.

The first reported appearance of the influenza was in Spain in the late 1917 when a Spanish Wire Service reported to the London Office that A STRANGE FORM OF DISEASE OF EPIDEMIC CHARACTER HAS APPEARED IN MADRID.

Yet the Madrid operator mistakenly added THE EPIDEMIC IS OF A MILD NATURE,NO DEATHS HAVEN BEEN REPORTED. Very quickly people started dying from the strange flu and quicky over 8 million throughout Spain fell ill from this epidemic including King Alfonso X111. Eventually most medical experts agreed that the Spanish flu could be traced to pigs and swine flu when linked to human bacillus producing a killer strain of influenza that attacked the human lungs in a deadly fashion.

It’s first appearance outside of Spain was at military bases and camps throughout Europe

As tens of thousands of British, American, French, Canadians and German troops were struck down with this mysterious “three day grippe” This brought a lot of fear for everyone. Diamond workers in South Africa, Dock workers in Hong Kong,Copper miners in Peru, Road workers in Bombay were affected, People young and old were affected especially pregnant mothers. Symptons was a dry cough after a 2 day incubation then headaches ,drowsiness, chills and a soaring fever reaching 104 degrees ,yet within a few days the victim would either be cured or dead. Instead of fighting the influenza with fresh air,exercise and a healthy diet of fruit and vegetables people became mistakenly convinced that the flu bug could invade their homes through open windows and doors. So they sealed their windows and doors and clean ventilation became unavailable allowing this disease to spread more quickly. Once this Spanish Flu was recognized as influenza ,its spread through coughing and spitting was identified and a concerned effort was mounted to eliminate its future growth, innoculations, and vaccines were given and the wearing of mask in public quickly became law. Stopping groups from forming in churches, meetings became effective. Yet by the time this great illness began to subside in November six million deaths had been reported. This was a sad time in our history. Hopefully let’s all hope nothing this bad happens again.

All about Dad's

We talk about the mothers, we talk about our children and grandchildren. We brag our families as often as we can. Well I think it is time to brag our Father's and our Grandfathers. Why? Well  if we sit back and think about it who gets up early every morning and goes to work? Dad.  Who do we turn too in our times of troubles? Many times we turn to our Dad. Dad can I borrow the car? Dad have you got a twenty that I can  borrow? Dad can you drive me somewhere? Dad can you help me fix the car?  Dad can I go to the dance? And many answers from Dad are OK or Yes. Is that not true? Who takes you out fishing sometimes? Or out to a hockey game? Dad, or even Grandfather does. So next month is Father's Day and he should be remembered, and even on his birthday the same thing goes. Remember him, show him you appreciate him and that you love him.Many of us have lost our Father's and we would sure love to see him again . A nice card and a gift would surely make their day. A little love in your heart

Every day I travel to two hospitals to visit my Mom and George. My heart aches to see them in any kind of pain, Mom had taken a major stroke and George went into septic shock which is very dangerous. I cannot show that I am worried or hurting for them. I enter their rooms with a smile on my face and a big Hello. They smile back at me  through their pain. So in my heart I believe I have brought them a little happiness for a short while. Then it is time to leave the room so the nurses and doctors can see them. So off to the waiting room I go. Soon the waiting room is filled with other folks just like me. They feel the same way as I do, about their loved ones, so we share stories and our feelings with each other. I think to myself "What can I do to make the waiting room a little easier for all these people?"  Well I must tell them something funny  that happened to me like the time my friend and I were coming out of a dance hall on a very cold snowy night. I was walking very fast to  get to the car, I thought my friend was right beside me, so I grabbed what I thought was his hand, I squeezed it so tenderly and looked up " It wasn't my friend, it was a complete stranger, my friend was walking behind and laughing like crazy and now everyone in the waiting room was laughing too. Now I am not satified I want to do more for others, and while Mom was on the rehab floor they had bingo games for the seniors and my brother started bringing Mom to the games, and i went when I could. Well you should have seen the seniors playing bingo, when they had bingo they choose from a table full of stuffed toys and their eyes would light up ,some would say I will give the blue one to my grandson, or the little brown teddy bear I want to give to a special little girl. And they are always running out of stuffed toys and if they do, they have to stop the bingo. So I started bringing in some stuffed toys from the dollar store, then my brother Andy did the same and I cannot express the feeling I got when they choose the toy I brought it. And would you believe some of the senior patients are there an hour before the game begins?  So I went to the hospital where George is and asked if they also had bingo games, yes they told me we have two floors that play bingo one is for extended care seniors. So I talked with my brother and the therapist about starting a stuffed toy drive for the bingos and if it came that they would have too many stuffed toys they could pass them to some children . They thought it was a great idea. So I decided to start a Stuffed Toy Drive in honor of my friend  George  and Mom  (Flossie) so I created a page of Facebook called George and Flossie's Stuffed Toy Drive  I have added a few photos and a bit about what I am doing. Our Mother's

As Mother's Day approaches I think back of all the things my mother did for me. She was always there when I needed her and I am so thankful that she was. So I wanted to talk to you about things concerning our mothers and ourselves. The other day I was talking with my Mom and  we were talking about when she got  married. She was very young when she got married and first of all she eloped. Out of the blue a question popped in my mind. Mom,I asked ! Do you remember the dress you got married with? She is 92 and she replied " Yes I remember, I borrowed it from my aunt and it was black with pink flowers. She said the saying at the time was If you wear black you wish yourself back. grin. But I never thought of asking her that question before. Now another thing my Mom told me was when she was young her mother used to cut her hair and she cut it square all around with a bang in front. Mom said she hated that hairdo and after she got married she never cut her hair until way later in life. She said she wore it in a bun most of the time and said her hair was below her waist. Then Mom told me after she got married they moved in with my Dad's parents and family and Dad's family was a big family and poor and Mom told me she took some flour bags sewed them together and made sheets for the beds, now you have to remember my Mom was a very young girl at the time, barely fifteen.  She sewed all our clothes as we were growing ,knitted us mittens and stockings .I am so pleased that they have made an annual celebration to honor all the mothers . They honestly deserve their very own special day. Why did I title this blog Our Mothers? Well because I wanted to ask you to talk with your mothers and grandmothers, ask them about themselves, what they loved to do, their favorite colors, what they remember about growing up. Who were their favorite movie actors? What kinds of books did they read? What were their parents like? Then write their answers down in a little book or online or record it. Our mothers will not be with us forever, I know some of you have already lost yours and I bet you would love to have asked them so many things. Don't wait! Do it soon.  When Mother's day arrives, show them your love and appreciation, a card, some flowers , or gifts. Had an Aline Day

Hello everyone. As you must know by now,it has been  a while since I blogged. So this morning I am up bright and early. It is now eight o'clock in the morning. I have been busy lately .My Mom is still in the hospital ,she has been there since November. She had taken a stroke and my family and I thought she would never walk again, nor eat, not even talk. She is 92 years old but let me tell you, this lady has something that I sure hope I have at her age. She has determination and that is a must have, if a person wants something bad enough. She was put on a feeding tube, now she is on partial pureed and soft foods, she could not walk, she now walks a bit with her walker , she could not talk ,she used to have to write on a notepad, she now talks. My family and I are so proud of her. I also have a special friend at a different hospital who has been there since February, so I have been travelling to both hospitals nearly evey day.

Once in a while ,a person needs a day of their own and yesterday was Aline's Day. I woke up early yesterday morning, and decided I needed an Aline Day. What did I do? Well as most of you must know, I have a love for genealogy.Genealogy is tracing our family's ancestors. It has been a love of mine since 1976 and I never tire of it. That is where I went to spend my Aline Day, to the genealogy center. I arrived there quite early, and settled down behind a micro film machine and I felt so at ease. No worries, no thinking about anything or anyone else for a short while. I am presently helping someone find their ancestors and I am succeeding very well . I then decided to do some transcribing of records to add on my acadian-roots.com  website. While I was transcribing ,I spoke to someone who used to work there long ago and who happened to stop by . I feel so at home there, if you think about it, I started my genealogy in 1976 that means I have been going there for the last 35 years. And would you believe I still find information there that I never knew existed? So my Aline Day went very well but there was one thing wrong, the day flew by so fast ,soon it was time to leave the genealogy center and return home.

Been Featured on Squidoo

Hello everyone, well today I have been busy doing genealogy first of all, I have helped someone find another part of his family tree. This makes me feel very good.  It took me a while to find the information but I don't usually give up very easily.

I am also working on my own tree , I have much more research to do. I am now still into my English line, I am enjoying finding information and a bit of history about the places in England where some of my ancestors lived. I had never ever heard of a place called Henfield but lo and behold I have ancestors from there and I checked some images and I found it very intriguing. On another note, I am always busy creating more things, today I did a poster, a mug, and a postage stamp.
