Who are Acadians and Cajuns?

Well I have been trying to think of something to blog that would be interesting for many of you readers. So today I would like to talk about Acadians and Cajuns.
Acadians were folks who came and settled in a place called Acadie. Which today is Nova Scotia. These people came mostly from France . They were peaceful folks trying to better themselves by beginning anew in a land they had never seen. Can you imagine leaving your home, with you personal belongings for a unknown place far away?

These people had surnames like Arsenault,Boudreau,Cormier,Doucet,Girouard,Hebert and so on.
Note  as you can see by the url above the mug I postced can be customized to your own surnames.
You can find this mug and others at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* in the Acadian/Cajun folder.
The Acadians settled in and around Port Royal at first, then some moved on to Louisbourg, Grand Pre, Beaubassin, Amherst areas and eventually to New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Note: In the url above you will see an image on the shirt of Poutine Rappees, they are a delicacy to most all Acadians. Any Acadians who moved elsewhere and come to the Maritimes will head for a place where they can buy these poutines. Poutines are made with grated potatoes, pork, cooked potatoes and rolled in a snowball sort of and pork is inserted in the middle and this ball is boiled. (They may not look appetizing to someone who has never eaten any but they sure are delicious. Same as for rappure or shiard ,I am posting the image next. This mixture is based on the same idea as poutines but instead of boiling it is baked in the oven and  forms a delicious crust on top.

Doesn't that look delicious?  You can find this postcard in my acadian/cajun folder http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Now back to the Acadians, in 1755  a vast majority of Acadians were loaded on overcrowded vessels and deported from Grand Pre Nova Scotia to various parts of the world. Some went to France,England,Haiti ,and many parts of the USA. Some Acadians avoided deportation by hiding in the woods or fleeing to Quebec. Some Acadians who were deported to France and some from Haiti made their way to Louisiana. And they were known as Cajuns . These Acadians who became known as Cajuns must have worked very hard in their new homeland. They had to deal with many unknown types of animals such as alligators. They were not given the best of lands so they had to improve their lands. And can you imagine being apart from your love ones and friends ? Because the deportation separated families and friends alike.

a cajun ladies shirt I believe you can order this in mens and children also. Again in my acadian'cajun folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
The cajuns surnames  were changed a bit  for example Boudreau  became Boudreaux, Robichaud became Robicheaux, Thibodeau became Thibodeaux. And you must have heard a lot of Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes, so here ia a mug that I really love you can find it the same place as all the urls I posted here in my zazzle.com/allicor store.
