Meteghan Nova Scotia

Meteghan is a fishing village in Nova Scotia. It was founded by some acadians in the late 1790 or early 1800s . Among the founders were Joseph LeBlanc and Prudent Robichaud and other Acadians.  The first church built was in 1817 the St Mande, later changed to St Martin.  A new church was built in 1885 the first Stella Maris church burned in 1943. From then on until the new church was built the parish hall served as the church until 1967 and the new Stella Maris church was blessed in 1972. I looked in the 1901 census for Meteghan and among the surnames I found some Amirault,Arsenault,Babin,Belliveau,Boudreau,Comeau,Bourque,Burke,Deon,Deveau,Doucet,Gaudet,Hill,Jeddry
LeBlanc, Maillet, Melanson, Poirier, Robichaud,Saulnier,Theriot,Surette,Thibodeau and more. So as you can see this little village was home to many of our Acadian Ancestors.  If you are interested in products with this image go to my church folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*   , I will post more churches soon.
